Ghostface, Pete Rock, and Stuff

by Travis on April 19, 2006

It’s not often I have time to spare to write up something, but I do today. The only bad thing, is I forgot my collection of my older hip hop at home so it’s kind of a scrap things together and see what I can present kind of day. I don’t want to blow an opprutunity to post something up when I have the chance. So today you get a smorgosboard of hip hop flavors. First up, some Chocolate Boy Wonder

Fresh for 2006, a Japanese only 12 inch promo of Pete Rock and Grap Luva entitled “Revenge”. If you are a Pete Rock/I.N.I fan, then this tasty little treat shall tickle your taste buds. It’s one of the better tracks I’ve heard this year, kind of along the lines of 04′s (?) “Record Collector”, which I throughly enjoyed and also featured Grap Luva. Good luck tracking it down, because rumor has it, only 200 were pressed up. Those damn Japanese get all the good stuff…..Word is it might pop up on the label, Handcuffs, compilation due out sometime this year. Not sure if that is in Japan, or the rest of us will be blessed with this.

I’m not going to act all high and mighty and pretend like I personally have this track myself, cause I don’t. I found it on the Justus League’s forums (The Lawn), so props for the person who orginally posted this track. It is my own orginal link though. It’s all one MP3, sorry, thats the only way I could get it, although I might have it broken up tomorrow….MAYBE…..

Pete Rock Feat Grap Luva- Revenge

Next up, working with what I have with me, is some Ghostface Killah. As everyone that has any remote interest in Hip-Hop knows, Ghost just dropped “Fish Scale”, which is one of the better albums of the year. So in celebration of that, I’m going to drop a few of the unreleased joints that Ghost has dropped over the years.

I’ve seen these tracks floating around the blog circuit for some time, so it’s not like I’m dropping anything mind blowingly rare here. For those of you looking for the late pass, this is your chance.

Ghostface isn’t my favorite artist by anymeans. I do think he drops some of the more consistant material out there, but like a lot of artists such as Nas, Eminem, & Jay-Z, some of his best efforts are tracks that didn’t or couldn’t make the albums for one reason or another. In Ghost’s case, it was usually sample clearance reasons that got the tracks dropped. Which is a shame, because some of the dropped stuff is his best stuff.

For what it’s worth, “The Sun” is my all-time favorite Ghostface song. Then again, I’m a sucker for anything Slick Rick touches, so that helps, but it’s a great song, probably in my top 100 of all-times (list coming in the future). I wish I could drop some more knowledge on the individual tracks, but as I mentioned, I’m not one of those Ghost/Wu diehard fans, so I don’t know the story behind every track they’ve done.

Good Times

Every month I make a CD of tracks I’m feeling, so you get a few tracks from Jan/Feb (don’t have March/April) that I liked. Just smattering of stuff……like I said, a buffett of hip hop music (damn I’m hungry)

Kice feat Mental Case- Ain’t Ready (from Kice’s “New Experiance” LP)

Special Teamz (Edo G, Jaysaun, Slaine) – Let The Music Play (From “The Mixtape”)

Senim Silla- Unknown Tracks (This cat used to be down with One Be Lo aka One Man Army, in Binary Star, I don’t know what the title of it is, I just found it on Soulseek when I typed his name in. I need to do some research, but if anyone has any info, feel free to share)

Junk Science- House Wigger ( from the LP “Feeding Einstien”)

Ras Kass- Last Laugh (From his “Revenge Of The Spit” mixtape, Jake One has some sick beats)

Lone Catalyst- En La Ciudad (From “Good Music” LP, top 5 album so far this year)

Blaq Poet- Bang Dis (De Ja Screw Mixtape)

Freddie Foxxx- The Life (From Primo’s “Check Ya Mail” mixtape)

That’s it for now…..
