"Let's Talk About……."

DJ Babu-The Beat Tape Vol.I

Woooooooooooo! I’ve never been a Dilated Junkies fan, or Dilated Peoples for that matter. Of course, all of that changed with Evidence’s “The Weatherman” (damn, I know you’re probably sick of hearing me brag it up!)and now this!!!! If I pose the question “What is possibly the best instrumental album you’ve ever heard?”, I’m sure “Donuts” will roll of more than a few tongues instantly. In the same vein as “Donuts”, DJ Babu’s new release “The Beat Tape Vol. I” clocks in 32 tracks deep with none of which measures longer that two minutes in length, which works nicely if your anything like me…..A.D.D. times 10. You’ve GOT to check this out, I’m already declaring it my “soundtrack to the summer” after about 5 listens. “Round & Round” takes the cake as my favorite, but there are soo many instantly recognizable loops utilized on “The Beat Tape” that it’s not hard to fall in love with. “Dee On” (clever title) flips the Dionne Warwick sample made popular on cuts by Usher, Sean Price and J Dilla himself, while Beanie Sigel used “Can’t Go On” for his “The B Coming”.If “Bug Guys” sounds familiar, listen to the intro for Prodigy’s mixtape/album “Return Of The Mac”. This album is absolutely perfect for those mid-70 degree summer nights, just pop this in and you’ll have yourself a wonderful evening! Oh, and go out and cop this!!!, but in the meantime you can check it out HERE
