Shut Em' Down

by Eric on September 24, 2007

Well, this just plain sucks!! After thinking about it long and hard….I’ve decided to close up shop here at W.T.R. I know that I’ll probably regret this in the long run but I gotta’ do what I gotta’. I loved doing this and I appreciate all of you who’ve made your daily rounds here at W.T.R. and made this site what it is today. It all boils down to the fact that lately “blogging” has become more like a second job than anything else to me. I truly love the music and I value the friendships that I’ve made with some of you as well, but I have a chance to do something really special with my regular 9 to 5 and I also have a few side ventures in the work which will be consuming much of my “free” time as well. With a beautiful wife, two baby girls and throw close to 800 clients in the mix….well, let’s just say I’ve got a pretty hectic schedule. The only convenient time that I’ve been able to update has been around 9-10 p.m. which severely is cutting into my sleep time, which isn’t a good thing when your dealing with four to five clients a day. One good thing is that I won’t be getting out of this totally, I will still be conducting a few reviews with Trav@WakeYourDaughterUp on a weekly basis (at least that’s the plan). Who knows, since Trav has also welcomed me aboard to do a guest post once in awhile you may get the a month’s worth of “THOUGHTS” crammed into one post (thanks for reachin’ out as well Trav, I truly appreciate it!). I just can’t handle the commitment of W.T.R. myself anymore, at least not up to the standards that I would like to maintain. So, I’m sorry ya’ll…but if I can’t do it right, I rather not do it at all. I truly appreciate all your visits and comments and thanks for puttin‘ W.T.R. on the map. Sorry if this may have come outta’ the blue, my wife still doesn’t believe that I’m doin’ this! It’s been one helluva’ run, but I gotta’ take care of my family first! Take care people and thank you!…-Eric

Thank your for everything man. An inspiration is what youve been for me and I respect you for that, sad to see you go man.
Take care of yourself though, thats whats important.

Tim September 24, 2007 at 7:41 am

That’s sad news, but as you say Eric, you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. For the record, this has been a great blog – always the first I head to for updates, plus there are plenty of CDs sitting in my collection that I wouldn’t have picked up had I not heard of them here. Thanks for all the work you’ve put in. Take it easy.

Hugo the Dude September 24, 2007 at 8:14 am

Damn. I’m sorry to hear!

I can’t say I’m suprised tough, I always wondered how some of you bloggers find the time for this massive quality posting without it bothering your real life too much… I’m gonna miss your posts here, but I got to say you’re doing the right thing. Looking forward to reading your posts at WYDU.

g. September 24, 2007 at 8:55 am

shalom friend September 24, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Peace from the Holyland, bro. Have fun, live long & prosper.

Big ups from Israel.

AaronM September 24, 2007 at 1:44 pm

Dude, I’m so sad but I understand.
Thanks for nourishing an 18 year old’s taste for the golden era hip hop and pointing me to the Blu & Exile album.
Looking forward to those post over there.
Best of luck, Eric.

Olskool4real September 24, 2007 at 2:22 pm

Eric it has been a pleasure to visit your site!! You have posted many artists that as others have stated I would not have given the time of day too but are now on the top of my list. You respect for the Golden era is obvious in your postings. I cna’t get a blog started because of the same reasons you speak of leaving now. I am now being forced to spend less time on the computer period. I visit about 20 or more blogs and sites a day, I comment on about 4 or 5 a day and i dont’ mean the typical please and thanks that’s required. Family life is very important.

You have shared to the world your input and allowed others to offer theirs on a time in hip hop when their were endless dope albums to choose from . You have truly allowed us to remininse.I will definetl check you out on Travis’s WYDU which is legendary in it’s own rights.

I want to say this before closing that I spend a lot of time on blogs reading more so thatn the downloading especially now that I am caught up!! But the reading is important, you offered insite my brother!! Thank you for your time and sharing your collections!!LOL

Dart Adams September 24, 2007 at 2:38 pm

Eric, I fully understand how you feel. The days gonna come when I’m actually employed full time and I’ll have to shut down Poisonous Paragraphs because I work on my job the way I do on my blog. You definitely are making the right choice because family comes first and these are some great years to see your kids grow up ( I helped raise my niece and nephew so I can attest to that). It’s sad to see you go but it’s great that your personal and professional life is thriving THAT’S what’s most important anyways.

Thanks for the support and kind words since the blog started…I’ll hold it down for the both of us.

Be easy,
Dart Adams

Machiventa September 24, 2007 at 3:44 pm

damn homie sorry to see the dope blog go. why not just do an update every once in a blue moon? bah probably a stupid idea. take care bro and see you at WYDU.

Yohan September 24, 2007 at 3:47 pm

You caught me by suprise here. This was by far my favorite blog to visit, checked daily etc. I do understand how long it must’ve taken to make those huge posts though, so I’m not totally suprised your normal life takes over.

Anyway, thanks for months of quality posts and music, and good luck with whatever you’re doing!

adrm September 24, 2007 at 3:56 pm

hard luck bro but you have you priorities 110% spot on, family always comes first. this has long been one of my favourite blogs and the first one which i went back through the archives and read every post!! it’s also how i found out about many other great blogs like WYDU and coldrockdaspot so thanks a lot. your obvious love for that classic golden age hip-hop is apparent and speaking as someone who was too young at the time it’s been awesome finding loads of those long lost classics on WTR. thanks again for all your efforts and take care

Ragz September 24, 2007 at 4:42 pm

fer September 24, 2007 at 5:36 pm

What a letdown!!! Thank you Eric for everything, this is one of the best Hip Hop blogs I’ve read EVER, if not the best. Good luck with your life.

ejunkie September 24, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Sorry to see you go man. I’ve definitely enjoyed checking in everyday. Good luck with the future and I’ll keep an eye out for your guest reviews.

Andrew September 24, 2007 at 7:38 pm

damn…that’s too bad.
however, i fully understand – family comes first in just about every situation

best of luck to you, looking forward to seeing you pop in at WYDU from time to time..
your blog was an inspiration – thanks again.

Pooch September 24, 2007 at 7:55 pm

Thanks for all the effort that you have done to expose everyone to great hip hop. I enjoyed your insight.

I am in the same boat. Fulltime 9-5, wife of seven years, 2 kids, more than understood.

Extremely dope site. Great Perspective. Greater life behind the computer. Good decision…our loss.

Mike Dikk September 24, 2007 at 8:09 pm

What a bummer. Oh well, be sure to stay in touch.

Everyone else can feel free ::shameless plug:: to visit

Bosshog September 24, 2007 at 9:06 pm

Gutted bruv, WTR is the only blog I check daily, and I’m always excited when it’s updated.

Seriously, you put a lot of work in and it was much appreciated.

No chance of even a monthly update? Please…

Swiftus September 24, 2007 at 9:11 pm

RIP to the one of the best blogs (not just music blogs, one of the best blogs full stop) around. Eric, this site had some crazy writing, and had me agreeing and disagreeing with you on so many points it’s unbelievable.

I think that even the hip hop MC’s themselves must be missing this site. I mean, how many people did you get listening to Ill Poetic, who would’ve counted him out as just another MC? (By the way, I still don’t think that album is THAT good, but I’m not gonna start that shit now…)

The amount of time you must have dedicated to this blog was amazing, as a fellow writer, I know how hard it is to dedicate a bit of time to just sitting down and freestyling your thoughts on a site (I haven’t updated in how many weeks…?).

Take it easy, and no doubt we’ll be seeing you @ WYDU.

Peace easy!

9@home September 24, 2007 at 10:46 pm

Too bad this can’t go on forever. But I understand. You don’t wanna tell your daughters when they’re in their teens you were always busy and deprived of sleep because “Daddy had to post rap lists to his blog, ya know…”
Family goes first. Much the same round here, but I never set out for some “daily news” type of blog. Twice a month is good enough for me right now.

All the best and thanks for the short and hefty blogging you did on here.
Is Rasul gonna keep it up now?

It’s very sad news, but real life comes first, and we appreciate the fact that you did anything at all in the first place. Good luck with all your future endeavors.

Big Fonz September 25, 2007 at 12:06 am

Wow!!! I only read the first line and I am stunned, but I understand. I got to go know but when I come back I will read. Thanks for everything bro!

A to the L September 25, 2007 at 4:02 am

Damn. Real life sucks. I have 4 more beats in my 25 beats list for you too… only took me life 3 months to write, right?!

Stay up, and stay in touch man.

Anonymous September 25, 2007 at 4:34 am

i just wanna say u did a great job on this. i was a regular here, not just for the free shit…but actually more for the writing. thanks and best of luck

Thadeacon September 25, 2007 at 4:37 am

Yo, i feel you. Thanks for the ill site, I’ll miss the writeups… and the arguments over your writeups. Priorities always the fam though, I got one too, and a demandin job so I really don’t even know how you did it… big ups to you. Good luck!

Roderick September 25, 2007 at 5:25 am

Why do you have to close the site?

Can’t you just pass it to some like-minded individual who just HAPPENS to have enough free time to update it every other day or so?

Dr of Style September 25, 2007 at 10:55 am

Sorry to see you go Eric.

WTR is always my first stop online.

Thanks for everything.

bs19 September 25, 2007 at 2:10 pm

They got to you didn’t they? Vibe prints your site and the next thing you know they’re shutting you down. Clients and family is no excuse–we are your clients and family. I’ll pray for you. Good luck…

Krisch September 25, 2007 at 4:54 pm

That’s sad news. Thanks for one of the best rap blogs. It’s gonna be missed, when they reminisce over your blog..

Wish you the best with your family.

Dan Love September 25, 2007 at 7:53 pm

I’ve sent you an e-mail, but it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t say my piece publicly as well.

When you started up in March I honestly felt that the blog scene was saturated, but along cam WTR and my faith was revived! You know that you’ve been a part of my immediate blog fam, and I’ll miss your perusals on hip hop new and old.

Much love to you and your family who deserve someone who I imagine is both a great husband and father.

Stay in touch man,
