Catching up on some downloads I missed, I came across the Joe Budden/Ransom beef from a few posts ago. It never ceases to amaze me how much I claim to be tired of beef and drama, yet I always click that button and see what dudes have to say. BEEF has been around since forever. Case in point, ran across this Billy Holiday performance from 1959.
Translation, “Bitch, if you got something to say, say it to my face…” same thing.
Back to the point at hand, this is the intro post. My name’s Eddie Leonard, and my life is dedicated to music and travel. Like everyone else on this blog, I gets strait to the point meaning what’s on my mind, and what’s on my mind right now is something the real Frank Lucas Frank Lucas said in one of the dozens of TV specials that have been running on him in anticipation of last weeks opener, American Gangster.
It was something to the effect of “What I did back then (getting the connect, paying officials off, hittin’ the streets with it) could never be done again.” A once in a lifetime opportunity. It’ll never be the 70s again.
I spend lots of my time stuck in other time periods. I love the music that the social atmosphere of the 70s created. Loved how labels threw money at rappers in the 80s and early 90s. I miss staying up on Thursday nights and setting my tape deck to record as much of Stretch and Bobbitos as I could.
Fast forward to the present moment, WYDU Classics streaming, (Large Pro remix of Gang Star’s “Gotta get over”…thanks Trav) and I’m beginning to realize the world of opportunity that’s at all of our finger tips- that Ayo Technology.
And it’s all moving so fast. Last year, my 80 gig Ipod made me the most popular dude at the office. Now, its already full to the T, and I’m already eying the 160.
Back in the day, if you missed taping a show, tough luck. Now, we have archives. click, scroll, select, and download. Again, world at our fingertips.
Point of all of this is fast forward like 30 years, when your kids look at your life and ask the question “Tell me what was it like living back in the old days, then when the internet was just starting up?’
Just a thought. I’m hope i’m able to say I took advantage. That being said, its good to be here.
My track for the moment. on the nostalgic jazzy beautiful-day-outside tip. “time flies”- pete philly & prequisite
And the video too.
