"WTR meets WYDU" presents: The 1994 "Fat Tape" post Pt. I

by Eric on March 3, 2008

The Source May ’94 “Fat Tape”

1. “D. Original”-Jeru The Damaja
2. “Bring The Drama”-Shyheim
3. “Let’s Get It On”-Smif N Wessun
4. “Top Of The Line”-M.O.P.
5. “Whassup Now?”-Artifacts
6. “Blowin’ Up The Spot”-GangStarr
7. “Reality (Killin’ Every Nig*a)”-Black Moon
8. “Undisputed Champs”-Del f. Q-Tip and Pep Love
9. “It Ain’t Hard To Tell” (Large Pro Remix)-Nas
10. “God Lives Through”-A.T.C.Q.
11. “Never No More” (Remix)-Souls Of Mischief
12. “Tears” (Remix)-Da King & I
13. “Blowed Away”-B Rezell
14. “Regulate”-Warren G f. Nate Dogg
15. “Anything” (Remix)-SWV f. Wu-Tang Clan
16. “Glock”-Vicious

Editor’s Note:  Wow, notice the inclusion of three cuts (“Blowed Away”, “Regulate” & “Anything”) that appeared on Death Row’s “Above The Rim” soundtrack.  Not so sure that B Rezell’s “Blowed Away” was exactly “fat tape” worthy.  Also, some dope remixes pop up here with the reworkings of “It Ain’t Hard To Tell”, “Never No More” & “Tearz”.

The Source June’ 94 “Fat Tape

1. “Crooklyn”-Crooklyn Dodgers
2. “Sh.Fe. MC’s”-De La Soul f. A.T.C.Q.
3. “Relieve Yourself”-Tha Alkaholiks
4. “Dreams (I’m Jus’ Playin’)-The Notorious B.I.G.
5. “My Mind Spray”-Jeru The Damaja
6. “Under The Sun”-Joe Synystr
7. “Are You Ready”-The Beatnuts f. Grand Puba
8. “Tha Anthem”-Dredknotz
9. “One Love”-Nas
10. “Lyrics To Go”-A.T.C.Q.
11. “Street Life (Remix)”-Tragedy
12. “Cummin’ Thru Ya’….”-Artifacts f. Redman
13. “The Shit Iz Real (Remix)”-Fat Joe
14. “Streets Of New York”-Kool G Rap & Polo
15. “Player’s Ball”-Outkast
16. “Hands On My Nine”-DFC

Editor’s Note:  Man, remember Joe Synystr?  After appearing on Erick Sermon’s solo debut “No Pressure”, dude kinda’ fell off the map once “Under The Sun” dropped…..damn shame too!  The Dreadnotz’ “Tha Anthem” is the true gem on this “fat tape”, I’d never even heard of it before compiling the tracks for this entry.

The Source Nov. ’94 “Fat Tape”

1. “C’mon Wit Da Git Down (Remix)”-Artifacts f. Busta Rhymes
2. “A Million And 1 Buddah Spots”-Redman
3. “Ma Duke”-O.C.
4. “Ghetto Love”-Big Mike
5. “Heaven & Hell”-Rae & Ghost
6. “Let’s Get It On”-DJ Eddie F f. Puba, Pac, B.I.G., Heavy D, etc.
7. “Come Take A Ride”-World Renown
8. “She’s A Bad Mamma Jamma”-Carl Carlton (editor’s note: WTF?!)
9. “The Rhythm”-Bas Blasta
10. “The Most Beautifullest…”-Keith Murray
11. “Hard To Kill”-Spice 1 f. Method Man
12. “Hand Of The Dead Body”-Scarface f. Ice Cube
13. “Shorty’s Doin’ His Own..”-Shorty Long

editor’s note: There is a track missing, Ahmad’s “It’s Like That”…however, The Source was notorious for misidentifying tracks…case in point, Keith Murray’s “The Most Beatifullest…” was labeled as “I Get In Ya” and World Renown’s “Come Take A Ride” was “Take Me On A Ride”. So who knows?

Dude you killing me with all these memories. I have all those old Source mags in a shoe box at my moms somewhere. You don’t know how hard it was to find that mag in the shops over here in the UK. And man, this was the the day of fuckin’ TDKs galore. Kids just don’t understand how hard we had it! LOL .

Props on the site .

The Source WAS notorious for misidentifying tracks. And making people dig around for the most obscure remixes, b-sides, soundtracks, etc. Anybody heard of a Kool G Rap cut called “Playin’ Bitches Out”? Exactly.

The Dredknotz EP was sick, I rather the Causing A Menace track, and the Lord Digga remix of The Anthem ……. What the fuk happened to them, one EP where nearly every track was sick and then they disappeared !?!
