Goodies from the Inbox: The CMJ Edition

by Travis on October 21, 2008

The CMJ (College Music Journal) Marathon kicks off this week, so there are lots of shows, conferences, and industry shin-digs going on this week in NYC (damn my location). This also lots of stuff coming out of the whirlwind of events going, so you’ll be seeing some of that as it floods my inbox….For those of you in New York City, some good stuff going down…..

Dear Obama by Mekka Don

My man Mekka Don is back in effect with a song supporting Senator Barrak Obama. I’m not one to get overly political on WYDU. I do have very strong feelings about politics (anyone that has seen my blogger avatar will know that) and on this election. I won’t tell you who to vote for, but let’s just say I support Mekka, this video and Senator Obama…..

————————————————————————————————Free Download: Understanding “An Obamacan”

Now available for free download is the new track from Understanding titled “An Obamacan” produced by DT of Clan Destined.

Words from Understanding: I basically wrote this because in my humble opinion this Election is perhaps the most important Election EVER. Bush may go down as one of the worst Presidents in US History and John McCain is threatening 2 be Bush Part III and we simply can’t have that. I feel like Obama represents not just a chance at positive change, hope and all that good stuff but I also think he represents Intelligence, Class and Sincerity. The fact that he just happens 2 be the 1st African American ever nominated 4 President by a major political party makes this whole time period even more special. The Civil Rights Movement began with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. approx. 40 yrs ago and while this election has been an ugly reminder of the fact that racism is still alive and well, Obama’s nomination [and the fact that he's leading in all polls] is a a pleasant reminder of how far we’ve come. With that in mind I felt like I had 2 do my part and this song is my effort in tryin’ 2 show love and support!!!

The Gent$ - Days Go On (Prod by Maker)

This album kinda sneaked up on me. One album I slept on Rip Van Winkle style was Pugs Atoms “Conversations With a Chamelion”. I’ve made up for that this year a bit, but I plan on not making that mistake with this new group album from Pugs, ILL Legit and Wes Restless.

Third official leak from The Gent$ upcoming release, which drops on October 21st on Enohes Music. The Gents are Pugs Atomz, ILL Legit and Wes Restless. Maker produced this remix. “Days go on”

And in case you missed it….
Joint from the new goup THE GENT$ called “Supper Time.” The group features Pugs Atomz (Chi), Wes Restless (Chi) and Ill Legit (New Jersey) who also produced the beat. The album will be released October 21, 2008 on Enohes Music. This is part two (The hunger to overcome).

New Video from Big Shug “My Boston” f/Termanology & Singapore Kane

Big Quarters Direct: November comes out November 5th.

“This is another record from The Blue Tape…it’s essentially a song about Hip Hop music…when this song was recorded I was in the studio with Angelous and Kid Cudi…Moe Productions did the beat and it’s dope…myself and Moe have a dope chemistry because we have been working together for years…his beats are real melodic and they always have a certain vibe that captures mood music…I’ll check ya’ll next week.” -K.
