SXSW PAYS HOMAGE TO MILES DAVIS AND THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF KIND OF BLUE, STILL THE MOST SIGNIFICANT AND BEST SELLING JAZZ RECORD OF ALL TIME, WITH KIND OF BLUE AT 50 Q&A, FEATURING LEGENDARY PRODUCER GEORGE AVAKIAN, AT AGE 90, THE FIRST NONAGENARIAN TO PARTICIPATE AT SOUTH BY

WHO/WHAT: Late jazz icon MILES DAVIS continues his influential Renaissance with the 50th ANNIVERSARY of his landmark album, KIND OF BLUE, still the most significant and best-selling jazz record of all time. With a modal approach to improvisation, this record changed the language of modern music. The Kind of Blue – 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition box set (reissue) documents the project with previously unheard music and rarely seen footage, taking a look back at the most forward-looking music of 1959.

SXSW pays homage to Miles and this great milestone with a special KIND OF BLUE – Q&A scheduled Thursday, March 19 from 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., and headed by Moderator Ashley Kahn, noted author of “The Making of Kind of Blue” ; Journalist David Fricke, senior reporter of Rolling Stone; Legendary producer George Avakian (age 90 – the first nonagenarian participating at SXSW – who discovered and signed Miles), and Miles Davis Properties, LLC representatives Erin Davis (son of Miles) and Vince Wilburn, Jr. (nephew of Miles). All attendees will be gifted with Kind of Blue giveaways, including Kind of Blue – 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition box sets (via raffle); Kind of Blue – Legacy Edition (Deluxe 2-CD set); Kind of Blue posters and T-shirts and Evolution of the Groove EPs.
