WYDU Mixtape & Radio Show Week

by Travis on March 17, 2009

It’s March already? How the hell did that happen? Seems like just week I was counting down the final seconds of 2008. Time goes by way to fast. Oh well.

I’m slammed this week as far as work goes, 10 hour days, starting at dragging my ass out of bed by 5:30 am and with the commute and everything, I’m not going to be getting back in the house until 6pm or so. I also wanted to catch up on some interviews I’ve been sitting on for entirely too long. Typing those up take time, so instead of working on daily posts, I’m going to take the easy way out and post up some stuff without much explanation of what it is. Since I think every album I own or that is on my computer has seen the light of the internet in one way or the other, I figured I’d dip into my collection of hip hop radio shows and mixtapes. Now I’m not talking about the weekly internet radio show or the latest mixtape from Charles Hamliton. No, these are from the old hip hop radio shows of NYC and mixtapes from DJs that were actually breaking music. It’s a concept that, unfortunately has lost it’s way over the years. Plus it’s an easy to way to keep my borderline Obsessive/Compulsive disorder when it comes to this freakin’ blog about posting something daily during the weekdays.

Most of this I found on the internet, so if you’ve seen before, sorry….But if you haven’t, there is probably some good shit for the fans of Golden Age stuff. Each day, I’ll post mixtapes or a few radio shows.

Two discs, five DJ’s, some of the greats. Lot’s of good music. It’s all here in one hellava mixtape. I think Tony Touch was instrumental in getting this thing going, but it’s straight up NY flava.

This is ripped from my two CD’s that I found in Salt Lake City of all places back when it first dropped. There was a little shop there that sold DJ equipment, mixers, tables, the essentials, and they also sold a lot of mixtapes. Usually it was only stuff in the tape format. I have a shit load of Tony Touch tapes from that place. This mixtape though, was in CD format. I snatched it up with the quickness. It was the first time I heard Breeze Evahflowin, Krumb Snatcha (I had “Closer To God” on repeat) and Shamus among others. Dope shit, check it out…..

***For some reason, Real Player didn’t recognize CD 1, so you’ll have to manually add the track names to it*****
