It’s Monday morning, which means a lot of you are dreading another work week. I know I am. Hip hop artists apparently also dread the office job and work weeks. Here are my top five favorite “work sucks” related hip hop songs.
Sure it’s a new track, but it captures the pure despair of working in an office and maybe with even more of a flair than I can relate to as it brings in office politics and race relations into the whole thing as well. Big ups to my man Kurt Fagan, who is part of Amad’s band, The Solution and in the video.
May be the original “Work Sucks” track. Lou was always good at turning stories and making interesting songs out of his tales. This is the version that appeared first on his “Listen To My Demo” collection, then made another appearance on his excellent Sin-A-Matic album.
I stumbled across this joint last year after reading Ed Catto’s review on another website. It quickly became one of my favorites, with it’s jazzy flavor on the beats. I’m a lover of beats, but they also come correct with the lyrics as well as they detail the hell that us office drones have to experience working the “9 To 5″. Also nice little scratched in choruses from well known lines add more recognition to the track.
I’ve never had the unfortunate experience of working in a fast food joint, but I’ve worked my share of food service type jobs (read: waiting tables) so I can relate in some strange way. Working with the public is faaaaar worse than any office job that I’ve ever had. De La captures the essence of being on both ends of the stick when it comes to the fast food joints. And damn, there are some hotties in some of those places…..
5. Atmosphere – Cashier In a Convenience Store (From Sad Clown Bad Dub 7)
Another job I’ve never had to do, thankfully. As I said, working with the public is a shameless and thankless job and I hope I never have to do it, cause lets face, we suck. Sean aka Slug covers it quite well, so well that I NEVER want to do it.
