When super producer J Dilla passed away in 2006, few could claim they felt the loss more than Madlib. He and Dilla had come together to present one of the most critically claimed albums of 2003, Champion Sound, and were planning on coming together again to continue to bring jaw-dropping soundscapes to the masses for years to come. It wasn’t meant to be. Since the loss of J-Dilla, Jaylib’s other half has continued pushing his beat factory to its limits, interweaving solo projects dedicated to or predicated by Dilla’s spirit in with EPs and albums highlighting some of today’s most underrated lyricists and singers. Madlib is the textbook definition of a “über-producer”, one who raises t
he bar consistently in quality and quantity, leaving a legacy few (besides his partner J-Dilla) could even come close to touching. But, as Roger Guenver Smith said as he portrayed Huey P. Newton in the critically-acclaimed A Huey P. Newton Story, “Everyone wants to bring you flowers when you die, no one gives you a bowl of soup to help keep you alive.” It is in this context, Dub MD and Cyrano would like to present a “bowl of soup” to Madlib entitled Madicinal Libationz.

Cyrano’s horizons are set even higher for 2009 as he attempts to add to his ever-growing, Madlib-esque catalog, including releasing 3 albums, Back 2 Lyfe (produced by Centric for Free At Last Music Group) and Soul Train Dancer: A Tribute To Rosie Perez (produced by JSLIKK for Backpackers Anonymous Music Group) along with SOBEIT (produced by Kid Hum for House Of Waxx Recordings) Also, be on the lookout as the RockTheDub website will be releasing a mixtape with Cy Yung entitled The Bleu Bayou Project. In addition to all that Dub MD with be connecting once again with Detroit emcee Nametag for Classic Cadence Vol. 2 and once again with the diabolical genius that is Illmind for Blaps, Rhymes & Life Vol. 3 in the next couple of months, stay tuned!

Unfortunately not a lot on this EP, but this is some GREAT music. Produced by Sci-Fi out of Scotland, this three man group out of Washington DC just brings the classic hip hop sound. I’m at a loss for words, so here is what another site had to say about it…. -Trav

Here’s some words from a recent write up on the EP taken from WWW.FROMTHEUNDERGROUND.COM.

Im tipping Ill Poetix to make some serious noise in 2009, everytime time I hear a new joint from the 3 dope MC’s it just gets better and better.

Rare thing these day’s in the rap game is to find a group who are in love with the old day’s of hip hop yet they don’t seem to dwell on it and wanna remake it…..not Ill Poetix they just wanna make “Now Music” but somehow encorporate the rawness of the past that makes you feel like you’ve just discovered hip hop for the first time again.

Ill Poetix combined skills come from The 4th, 808 (Stop 1) and Ivisuai who all bring something a little unique to rap……
But yo check it out for yourself as
AMG their label have just dropped this hot EP on the free download star track on there for me is The Touch produced by Sci Fi shit is dope as hell……

Free Download: ProlifiCal “Lyricist Parlae” EP

From the depths of creativity emerge two of Cali’s finest emcees, who naturally seem to demolish the preconception that lyrical delivery should reflect demographics. ProlifiCal group members Praduct and Drypht Avenue, aren’t your average West Coast rappers, but rather, pure lyricists. With the release of their highly anticipated debut album nearing, Domination Recordings now presents their free downloadable EP entitled “Lyricist Parlae”.

This six track promo is a captivating glimpse into the unique style of rhyming ProlifiCal is known for. An impressive lineup of appearances include Bay Area emcee Mikial on the track praising Hip Hop as a true artform rightfully named “Cold Art”, and Oddisee from Low Budget on the melodic joint entitled “Aroma Therapy.” The EP also contains a continuous play bonus track called “Rainy Days” that features Domination’s very own Hempstead, New York duo, Tha Connection.

The attention demanding voices of both Praduct and Drypht Ave. combined with dope lyrics and an ill blend of production, makes this release a definate entertaining experience of raw talent at its best.

So, as this EP parlaes into ProlifiCal’s conceptual album “Train Of Thought”, due for release in the co
ming weeks, we invite you to support and solidify your appreciation for good music, and enjoy the listening…

Cymarshall Law “Lark on My Go Kart” freestyle –

Warren G

His laid back flow and production have made him an undisputed Hip-Hop legend, but those attributes and accomplishments have and always will certify multi-platinum rapper and producer, Warren G as a West Coast icon.

While many West Coast artists such as Tupac, Dr. Dre, and Snoop signed record deals with LA’s Death Row Records, Warren G took an alternative route and signed with Def Jam in New York , quickly proving he had something remarkable up his sleeve. His 1994 debut album, Regulate…G Funk Era, certified Warren G as a multi-platinum internationally acclaimed artist, selling over 10 million units worldwide. He also received multiple award nominations (Grammy, American Music, Soul Train) for his smash hit “Regulator.”

Def Jam founder and the God Father of Hip Hop, Russell Simmons, would later cite Warren G’s signing as “a turning point” for the storied Def Jam Records imprint and its subsequent mega-success. “After that, Def Jam never looked back,” Simmons wrote in his book Life and Def. Likewise, as one of the first rap artists on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” Warren G helped put the West Coast on the Hip-Hop map with his success and by nurturing the careers of many other talented artists.

Subsequent albums Take a Look Over Your Shoulder (1997) and I Want It All (1999) were certified gold and generated hits “I Want It All” and “I Shot The Sheriff,” a cover of Bob Marley’s popular song by the same name. Warren ’s 2001 release Return of the Regulator showcased his studio skills through working with legendary artists like Stevie Wonder and George Clinton (the two, alongside the late Tupac Shakur, are cited by Warren as some of the great highlights of his extensive collaborations over the years).

With five LP’s already under his belt, Warren G will release his sixth studio LP, Tha G Files, in August 2009 (an entirely self-produced effort) and in order to celebrate its impending release and mark 4-20, he is releasing a very special 420 promotion free download of “Lets Get High” (4:20 Anthem) f/ Black Nicc and Blink 182’s Travis Barker who adds his unparalleled drumming abilities to the track (“Lets Get High” will also be included on Warren’s upcoming Tha G Files LP).

“I wanted to do something very special this year to support the 420 movement, explains Warren G. “Marijuana has been proven to be an effective medicinal treatment for cancer and many other medical problems”, he adds.
