Offbeat Midweek – IPhone and Verizon

by OSnapple on October 14, 2009

So I’m finally back after spending a week with my old man who came to visit. Had a blast and got to do some local traveling, fishing and relaxing.

The other night I was watching TV and i seen this commercial for Verizon Wireless and it had me laughing hysterically. Seems to me that Verizon is a little bitter about the exclusive contract that Apple has with AT&T and in my opinion rightfully so. I have to give them credit though, they were able to walk the fine line of copyright infringement and at the same time clearly state their case.

I personally respect apple products for their specific uses (Audio Recording, Video Editing, etc…) but i still have a hard time recommending them as an everyday computer due to their price and the grip Steve Jobs somehow maintains on his customers balls.

Over the past few months I have toyed with the idea of getting the IPhone. I’m usually on the move and like to have access to my e-mail and other gadgets while I’m out and about. I currently have an IPod Touch but that is only good when I have an open wireless connection.

I talked to several people in the area who were pretty disappointed with the “3G” coverage that AT&T claims they have throughout the United States, and this has deferred me from switching from my current Verizon carrier to AT&T. The bad side is who knows how long it will be before Apple moves to a different carrier.

Do any of you guys currently use an Iphone or iPod touch? If so what is your experience with the IPhone and AT&T? I’m just looking for some more objective info before i decide whether to make the switch.

I had an iphone for a bit and although the internet and the apps on it are great, the actual phone itself is awful. I live in the DC area and the AT&T coverage is quite shitty. I switched back to Verizon. I also know some people who live in NYC who say that they have problems with the 3G service up there as well.

Ahhh thats a bummer, i heard the exact same thing from some people here in Cali. Alot of them are business people who used to use the blackberries exclusivly, and tried the iphone but now have to use headsets so they can hear it ring LOL

Iphone is dope. AT&T sucks. Apple really needs to get out of this Faustian deal.

@Werner Yeah im starting to feel the same way, i wish they would get with Verizon and make a lot of people really happy. I was thinking about looking into an Iphone App/Interface for this site. what does everyone think?
