Eric's "Top 50 Albums Of The Decade"

by Eric C. on January 1, 2010

Following down the same path as Dart, I too submitted my list for the “Top 50 Albums Of The Decade” to Jeff Weiss (of Passion Of The Weiss) back during the early weeks of May.  Also, I’ve made quite a few revisions and additions to the list after the jump.  Again, this could all change tomorrow, yet after glancing over the list once more, these are the albums that meant the most to me over the last 10 years.  I’m sure a few of these selections will raise a some eyebrows.  Oh well, that’s what makes these damn lists soo freakin’ addictive to read as each year winds down.  Enjoy!

wtf? no Fish Outta Water form Chali 2na. No Global Takeover by El Da Sensei and no Lisn 2 This by E Reece? This list is straight bogus.

I REALLY wanted to put Illastrate & Aarophat’s “Black Noise” on my 2000-2009 list but I couldn’t figure out anything to take off the list. 2009 was yet another good year. Can’t wait for what 2010 has to offer.

8 Diagrams?? Hmm…

Hugh January 1, 2010 at 8:11 pm

Damn…Supreme Cliente dropped 1/25/00. Its been so long I just KNEW it came out in the ’90′s. Good call on that.

yeah, I need to “research” classic hip hop? That’s why the list says “Eric’s Top 50″. Nas’ -Stillmatic is not a classic really? Let’s look: “Smokin” Nah son…”Rule”? Nah son…”My Country”? Far from it..GangStarr’s “The Ownerz” isn’t even in the duo’s top 4 releases

I have to disagree with this list…there are alot of CLASSIC albums (GANGSTARR -THE OWNERS) (NAS-STILLMATIC) that aren’t on the list that are waaaay better albums than most of these albums here, and your order is a delusional too…Ill Poetic did NOT have the best album of the decade. sorry man but you need to do some more research on real hip hop.

lol no Y Society… are you kidding? Best release of the decade.

Tough to narrow down just 50. Love Blue Scholars, Wordsworth and Panacea additions. Agree with the Ownerz and Stillmatic omissions. Not feelin’ these selections though:

Game – Documentary
Wu – 8 Diagrams (Rae- OB4CL2 slight nod)
Now On – Tomorrow already (solid, but not top 50)
Prodigy – HNIC (also solid, but not top 50)
Little Brother – Get Back (pales to Listening and Minstrel)
Buck and 9th – Chemistry (P’s Monkey Bars was Superior)
dead prez – RBG – (I would prolly go Let Get Free the slight nod)
I actually gotta check Uncut Raw….

Mr. Lif – I Phantom and I Heard it Today (hard to believe no Lif!)
Asheru and Blue Black – Soon Come
Nas – The Lost Tapes (trumps all his releases except Illmatic)
Reflection Eternal – Train of Thought (has to be on there)
Edan – Beauty and the Beat
Elzhi – The Preface (over Milk’s Tronic)
J-Live – All the Above (this gets no love for some reason… SMH)
Five Deez – Koolmotor
Illogic – Unforeseen Shadows (prolly best lyricist of the decade)
Diverse – One AM (banana’s production)
Cannibal Ox – The Cold Vein (Prolly over EL P’s – “Sleep” for def jux)
Babbletron – Mechanical Royalty
Cool Calm Pete – Lost
Quasimoto – The Unseen (has to be on there as well)
Atmosphere’s – “Lemon’s” or “Can’t Believe How Much Fun…”
