This week, we’ll be wrapping up the year 2009 with our “Bloggerhouse & WYDU 2009 Year In Review”. This will be one of the few times you’ll see the same posts on WYDU as Bloggerhouse and vice versa. We kick off the week with my PERSONAL Top Fifty albums of the year 2009. Meaning, these were my favorites, and not what I think the overall best were. I listened to around 400 mixtapes, EPs, and albums, as far as I can tell this past year. That mean these were my favorites, ones that got more than one play then was forgotten about. It’s important to point out that there was no limitations on this list. There are EPs, instrumental albums, mixtapes, and albums all mixed in here. Hell, there is even something that might be classified as a 12 inch vinyl single, but this was the best of everything.
I’m still debating the quality of the ’09 year. Obviously I was bombarded with music and actually felt overwhelmed a few times and probably didn’t give some quality projects the amount of time they deserved. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to build relationships with albums that didn’t hit me right off the bat. Sometimes albums take a few listens to get acquainted to, but that just wasn’t possible this year unless you already had a proven track record. An album like Brother Ali, which I didn’t really feel right off the bat, got another listen just because he’s had some decent material in the past. And it worked, but others, if it didn’t grab me right that first listen and this was my first time listening to your work, it might have been swept to the side. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes these days.
As I pointed out, all this week will feature the best 2009 had to answer. We’ll cover my 100 favorite tracks of the year (with an extra 100 more that you should heard as well) and we’ll feature the fourth annual WYDU & Bloggerhouse awards, so stay in tune.
