I’m still learning my way around this new layout & site so bear with me for the first month or so. Spacing may be odd in each post. Some images may appear too large. In any event, before you know it I’ll stop sucking. Here are a dozen songs I’ve been playing a disgusting amount over the past 2 weeks or so. If it’s at all possible, please make a donation of some kind to Haiti. As a Bostonian, I have a lot of friends that have people there and they are going through Hell right now. Every little bit helps. Onto the list:
1. Dibiase X P.U.D.G.E. “Smoke It Over” (prod. by Dibiase & P.U.D.G.E.)
All City’s “LA Series #1″ features production from LA beat circuit mainstays Dibiase & P.U.D.G.E. and is punctuated by the collaborative effort “Smoke It Over”. I had this jawn on repeat for 30 minutes the first time I heard it. Then I got something to eat. Then I came back & play it some more. It’s #1 on this list for a reason. Click the link, dammit.
2. House Shoes “The Makings” (prod. by House Shoes)
Yeah. Cop this now. Right now. I heard this on “The Shimmy” podcast/mixtape and rewound the hell out of it. Now it’s in my iTunes & I’m still playing the hell out of it. It’s gonna happen. No way around it.
3. Jay Electronica f/Mos Def “Holiday” (prod. by Just Blaze)
Jay Electronica and Mos Def over a Just Blaze beat? Yes please. Turn it up, man! (no Freedom Rock). I’ve played this song so many goddamn times over the past two plus weeks it’s borderline sickening. Nah, fuck it…it IS sickening. No way around it. *Sings the hook*
4. Georgia Anne Muldrow “Simple Advice” (prod. by Georgia Anne Muldrow)
Georgia Anne Muldrow will be dropping a new album in February on Ubiquity Records called “King’s Ballad”. This was the first song from it that surfaced right around Christmas and since then another song has been released by the label as promo. Georgia Anne Muldrow will be taking more of my money this year it seems.
5. Black Milk f/Daru Jones & AB “Keep Going” (prod. by Black Milk)
Black Milk will be dropping three albums in 2010. “Random Axe”, “Album Of The Year” & his collaborative effort with Melanie Rutherford. Here is the lead single off of “Album Of The Year” and it sounds like 2010 will be Black Milk’s year (too).
6. Flying Lotus “Sangria Spin Cycles” (prod. by Flying Lotus)
It’s a Flying Lotus track, dumbass. Of course it’s on my list. It’s 99¢ for God’s sake so cop it. C’mon. Seriously. Support good music. While your at it, donate to Haiti with either money, goods or services.
7. Reflection Eternal f/Jay Electronica, J. Cole & Mos Def “Just Begun” (prod. by DJ Hi-Tek)
So…Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Jay Electronica are all rapping over a Hi-Tek beat? Fuck the NBA, the studio is where amazing happens. The Statik Selektah “Re: Union” mixtape just makes me wanna hear a new Reflection Eternal LP all the more (which is the desired effect).
8. Statik Selektah f/Lil’ Fame, Havoc & Kool G Rap “Do It 2 Death” (prod. by Statik Selektah)
If you’re not in anticipation of Statik Selektah’s “100 Proof (The Hangover)” on February 2nd then you need to be beaten with a bar of soap wrapped in a towel while you sleep by every emcee featured on his album. I’m only serious…
9. Bullion “Say Goodbye To What/Crazy Over You” (prod. by Bullion)
It’s Bullion. Between his 12″ “Get Familiar/Rude Effort” and his “Young Heartache EP” if I see any new production with his name on it I’m instantly all over it. This is no different. Dayum.
” f/Fat Ray, Ro Spit, T3, Phatboy Chef, Marv Won, One Be Lo, Buff 1 & Fatt Father (prod. by Black Milk)
It’s like Detroit is in an alternate universe where every other person is an ill emcee or producer or some shit. Seriously. What’s in the water in Michigan anyways? These cats all murder a Black Milk beat. Be sure to visit Burn Rubber for some of the illest urban fashion/clothing as well.
11. Dibiase “I Pity The Fool” (prod. by Dibiase)
I heard this track a few days after I first heard “Smoke It Over”. Now I’m playing the hell out of it trying to catch up to the total spins I gave the collabo track. Cop the full “LA Series” project direct from All City Records or you can just wait for all 10 records to drop individually. I’m not too sure I can wait, though.
12. Lessondary Crew “BANG!” (prod. by Aeon)
Just cuz it’s Lessondary. You already know the deal with these cats (if not, welcome to 2006 where George W. Bush is president of the United States Of America). Listen to this song, then…I dunno Google ‘em & get all their albums? Yeah, do that.
