What's New In Dart's iPod #2 AKA The Answers Are Coming © Morpheus

by Staff on January 28, 2010

This week I’ll be reviewing ten new projects that recently hit the ‘net/bloggerverse and/or will be landing on store shelves soon in the following order: Aspect One “Vibe Over”, Big Noyd “Queensbridge Chronicle”, Corrine Bailey Rae “The Sea”, Dibiase & P.U.D.G.E “Los Angeles Series 1/10”, Erik L & Illingsworth “Northern Connection”, K-Murdock “Piano-Rama”, Marv Won “Wayne Fontes Music”, Oddisee “Traveling Man”, RJD2 “The Colossus” and DJ Trackstar & Vandalyzm “Vandalyzm Is Not The Father″. For those of you unfamiliar to my review blog format, I don’t rate albums on a scale or assign them a numerical value out of 5 or 10, instead I merely answer the all important question of “Is it worth buying or not?”. Here’s how my recently revised “Cop It Or Not” ratings system breaks down below:

Opinions be damned. This particular project has no redeeming qualities whatsoever and should come with a Surgeon General’s warning and/or a biohazard sticker. It should only be handled by hazmat teams or bomb/demolition squads. To quote Common & Canibus, this album is your worst nightmare squared.

Oh No! This CD is a drink coaster/table balancer/doorstop/gerbil/hamster room divider/frisbee/discus/makeshift shield/last ditch choice for a visor/alternate shuriken choice. Sell this shit to whoever is dumb enough to buy it from you.

Maeby (Maybe)! Depending on your own set of personal preferences you might like this joint. Give it a listen first to see if it’s in your lane or not.

Mos Def! Cop the album when it drops…’Nuff said! Rest In Eternal Peace to Prince AD AKA Killa Sha & Apache

Best Jawns: Invasion, 1215, You Send Me, After Sex, Vita, Because, Tainted Love, Can’t Go For That, Swerve, Concert, Sparkle, Emeralds, Rock With U, Falling, One Melody, Fire, Livestream, Fling, Little Children, Forgotten, If This World Were Mine, GreenGlitch and Hanging On Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: This instrumental project punched me in the face from my first listen. Last year’s “Vibe Ready” really announced to the coming of Aspect One but “Vibe Over” states that he’ll be here to stay. If you’re a beat head or just a Hip Hop fan in general you need this is your life. Mos def

Best Jawns: Queens Chronicle, All I Got To Say, The Rules, Kilo Rap, Dreams, Pokerface, Money Time and Livin The Life Meh: Queensbridge Thuggin’, Where My Gz, QB Duo, Testify and New York Lights Hot Garbage: Get It Done Dart’s Take: This album was boring as hell to me. Lyrically, it’s a’ight. Production wise? A’ight. Overall, it’s a mediocre ass album and life’s too short to be bumpin’ mediocre ass albums. Maybe.

Best Jawns: Are You Here, I’d Do It All Again, Feels Like The First Time, The Blackest Lily, Closer, Love’s On Its Way, I Would Like To Call It Beauty, Paris Nights/New York Mornings, Paper Dolls, Diving For Hearts and The Sea Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: Corrine Bailey Rae experienced some real life heartache after her last successful album dropped and needless to say her new project “The Sea” has been well worth the years we waited for her re-up. This album is a monster and I can’t wait for the new Sade to drop (no FWMJ). I give “The Sea” a mos def easy.

Best Jawns: WTF, Thrilla Time Slime, Spacely Sprocketts, I Pity The Fool, Intro, Satta Marijuana, Blips Ahoy Mate, Afrilude, AwnMyDawn, Arab Incense and Smoke It Over Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: Dibiase & P.U.D.G.E completely murdered this instrumental project. Murdered it. It’s sickening like Monique’s unshaken legs…or Gucci Mane, period. Find it. Cop it. Play it loud. Another mos def.

Best Jawns: Northern Connection, Shogun Assasins, Galaxy Express, The Warriors Did It, Musical Addiction, Time Kills, Acirfa (Eve’s Dance), Reach, VSOP, Let’s Get It, Love Of Music, Planet Of Peace, Trifecta Would You Believe, Red Snow and Y Stop Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: Illingsworth & Erik L of Detroit CYDI dropped an ill album that will no doubt go under the radar in 2010. All you need to do is seek it out and listen for yourself to realize that quality Hip Hop is still around in abundance…just not on TV or the radio. Highly recommended maybe for “Northern Connection”.

Best Jawns: Intro, Star Seeds, The Chosen, The Up-Rizing, Instro-lude #1 (“Streisand”), A Better Kiss Goodbye, Hello Light, Concrete Jungle, Instro-lude #2 (“IGYB”), Mood Muzik, Tobias aka “A Jazz Tribute”, One Second Pause, Instro-lude #3 (“Mirage”), They Don’t Know, Strangers Are Hard To Find and The Gauntlet Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: I’ve never been big on Panacea. Some of you would want me to relinquish my backpack for saying that but I’d just stab you with a boxcutter if you tried. In any event, K-Murdock is still one of the best producers in the game and he skillfully exhibits why on “Piano-Rama”. I was pleasantly surprised with this entire project from beginning to end. I have to give it a mos def, too. Damn, now I look easy.

Best Jawns: Intro, Feel It, Get It In, What I’m On, Lay It On The Line, Stomp, You Ain’t A Soldier, Mad At Me, Do My Thang, Totally Awesome, Be Careful, Lay Down, Rock-A-Bye & Ways To Go Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: Marv Won dropped “Way Of The Won” last month, a ridiculous collection of unreleased material that shat on several people’s brand new albums. Marv topped that by dropping a proper album of new material that shat on “Way Of The Won” and several artists upcoming albums as well. I posted a link to it up on Bloggerhouse almost two weeks ago and you can just go there to here it for yourselves and purchase it. Yet another mos def.

Best Jawns: Goodbye DC, NYC, Paris, Miami, London, Khartoum, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Brixton, Lagos, Long Beach, Melbourne, Boston, Atlanta, Philly, San Fran, Stockholm, Inglewood, South Central, Detroit, Chicago, Las Vegas, DC and Houston Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: This shit is insane. Just…damn. It just dropped this past Tuesday and my neck still hurts from my first listen. Another mos def.

Best Jawns: Let There Be Horns, Games You Can Win, Giant Squid, Salud, The Glow, A Spaceship For Now, The Shining Path, Crumbs Off The Table, A Son’s Cycle, Tin Flower, Small Plans, Gypsy Caravan, The Stranger & Walk With Me Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: This is a nice return to form for RJD2 as once he “abandoned Hip Hop” and decided to do his own vocals I sort of stopped paying attention to his output. He’s since dropped the Third Hand instrumentals and once I heard “The Colossus” it was hard to front on this excellent album of compositions and instrumentals. Yeah, it gets another goddamn mos def.

Best Jawns: The Flood, Awesome, Get Down, Move On ‘Em, The Matrix, Alone, Dear Moleskine, Fuck Y’all, I’m A G (Not Foreal), I’m On, Yeah Naaw, Untitled, So Disrespectful, Middle Of The Map & Callin’ My Name Meh: N/A Hot Garbage: N/A Dart’s Take: Why even waste any more time? Mos def. D/L it here NOW

I have to change the format of “What’s New In Dart’s iPod”. I can’t do it like this, the spacing doesn’t work, I can’t minimize every image. I need to take some stuff out completely and change stuff around. Even if I try to do it on Blogger the format doesn’t work out right because it retains the WordPress format if I bring it from there.

Eric, if you can do me a favor, please space this out for me? Thanks.

Either this is a great month for music, or your getting soft, like the twinkie filling. I don’t think I have enough time to peep all of it.

Dart January 28, 2010 at 3:29 pm

I meant more spaces between each review but whatever. I should’ve changed the format to be more like the Most Played For The Week anyways..

Thank you man. “Stockholm” on Oddisee’s album is sooo hip-hop. I had that shit on repeat to cicero’s good life.

Look forward to this post, but since this transition to bloggerhouse the graphics are terrible, do you need more bandwidth space or what – The graphics and overall feel get the Oh No!

Spliff February 2, 2010 at 7:24 pm

^^^^^^^^^^ second that.

Eric February 3, 2010 at 10:12 am

what do you mean “overall feel”…expound…please

Dart_Adams February 3, 2010 at 2:14 pm

I need to post in visual to see what I’m doing & if I space/spread things out when it autosaves it all smushes back together again. I’ll just leave all the extra jpegs & album covers out & Maybe even the intro because I can’t get the spacing right. I’ll just do it like I do the “Most Played For The Week” & keep all the album covers minimized.

Mos and the “maybe” chick are kinda stretched out and distorted, maybe drop down to 300×300? Or whatever they normally come at. I’m cool with uniformism, but I don’t think everything needs to be 400×400. And formatting on WordPress is bit tricky, I’m obviously still learning myself.

Travis February 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Dart what I “try” to do is just write every thing out without adding visuals or any bold or italics in HTML, then after everything is written, I had the graphics, album covers ect. I usually upload via blogger then copy the HTML code and paste it where I want it on word press while it’s still in HTML. Then I go into visual and do the bold and italics. It “usually” works, although I can’t seem to get more than one line of width in my spacing, but it’s better than nothing

Dart, u gotta review the Elevated Ruffians “Magnificent Soul LP”. Beats were dope on 1st spin, but keeps getting even better on repeated spins! Rhymes from Specific & Master Chief were excellent from 1st listen, they remind me of Phonte wrt combining the conscious with hillarious lyricism.
