All I’m sayin’ is, back near the  start of June, Melting Pot Music (home to some of our favorite beat-makers here at B-House, i.e, Suff Daddy and Hubert Daviz) dropped a hellafied compilation/beat-tape titled “Puzzles”, and I can almost guarantee you that you’ve never even heard of it.  Don’t ask me where or how I got my hands on this 16-track gem, all I know is while leafing through tracks to bump on our #SCRUNCHFACE show late Sunday evening, I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon one of the finest instrumental jawns I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying all year!

The brainchild of Twit One, “Puzzles” features stellar production from the likes of Suff Daddy, Kankick, Hubert Daviz, amongst others, yet the real “diamond in the ruff” is the workings of Hulk Hodn.  Along with the aforementioned Twit One the two combine to form Testiculo Y Uno, but on the thumping “Sin Wit’ Me” Hodn goes for delf with a production that is bound to put an extra bounce in your step.  With “Rollikadat”, Hubert Daviz reverts to the bare minerals of underground hip-hop production; dusty as fu*k sampling atop barebones drum breaks and “6 AM” depicts the essence of the late, great J-Dilla in his heyday, thanks in part to the “Donuts-esque” production of Tabrock.

All in all, “Puzzles” is money well spent. At $8.99, it’s hard to pass up the stellar production that “Puzzles” encompasses, even if it’s its courtesy of producers whom you have not yet identified. One of the biggest surprises of this year, I’m just dissapointed I didn’t locate this compilation in time to include it on my “Top 10 Instrumental LPs” list.
