It’s a Friday before a three day weekend, the end of summer, and the last major holiday until November. Naturally things are kind of slow on the inbox front, but have no fear. Last week, my man Dan from Dekagon Records hit me up to tell me about an upcoming project they were releasing. For those of you reading WYDU/When They Reminisce back in 2007, you will undoubtedly remember Eric and myself pushing a group out of Kansas by the name of Archetype. Their Bleed For Them was number three on my Top Albums of 2007 (I’d probably move it up to the two spot these days). We both included the album in our Top 50 Hip Hop Albums of the Decade. Of all the projects, mixtapes, EPs, songs, and just general music, I can honestly say that the album is my favorite piece of music ever submitted to me. I think that highly of Bleed For Them.
Well, Dekagon has one half of Archetype, the producer, Nezbeat teaming up with Joe Good, who was a guest on Bleed For Them. The duo will release an album, Good Hair, will be a free download which is good for those of us that like quality, soulful, hip hop. To prep the masses of the upcoming Good Hair project, the duo have released the first single, a Nezbeat solo track, “Fuschia.” Sometimes there is no need to mess with a good formula if you have it, and that’s what Nezbeats does on this track. Nez flips a melodic beat with flutes, keys and soft vocal samples. As I set on the patio of this beautiful summer afternoon, sipping on an adult beverage, “Fuschia” is a perfect soundtrack for the this lazy summer afternoon.
