What’s New In Dart’s iPod #28 AKA March Madness

by Staff on March 29, 2011

This has been a hectic month to say the least in respect to new Hip Hop releases. It’s also been a hectic month in respect to new releases that I’d go on record and consider worthy of merit. Since I’ve decided to forgo listening to every single album that dropped including ones I know I’d hate (i.e. Wiz Khalifa’s “Rolling Papers”) but taking chances on ones I know might suck (i.e. Lupe Fiasco’s “L.A.S.E.R.S”) things have gone much smoother for me with this process. I know some people wish I’d get back to writing reviews but given my new recent responsibilities it’s simply too much of a time crunch for me to write 40 plus reviews in one sitting anymore.

Here are most of the projects I heard this months and I actually think are worth purchasing or downloading. I may have missed a few beattapes & instrumental albums in this drop so please review the month via Producers I Know to see what I may have missed (I have NOT yet heard either the new Pusha T or Big K.R.I.T. jawns. I’ve been busy, sue me). Next month, The Scrunchface Show returns to the air as well. In any event, here goes:

Don’t take this as an insult, but you always seem to be complaining about how hectic your life is and how you don’t want this blog to kill you. What is so hard or time-consuming about dropping at least a few sentences about how you feel about each album? All you’re doing right now is posting a list of albums you thought were dope, something most of us could do in 5 mins. Listening to music isn’t a chore, its something most of us do it regularly anyway. I don’t see how it would take more than a couple hours out of one day a month to write a small paragraph about each album.

Honestly your blog is pretty useless right now. I’m not going to listen to all the 40 albums you list just to find I don’t like half of them. Not everyone has the same music tastes, so it would make your blog a million times better if you would at least tell us WHAT was good about these albums.

@dru: If you had any idea all of the shit I do between Producers I Know, Bastard Swordsman, Bloggerhouse & The Scrunchface Show in addition to some external project then you’d understand why I ultimately decided to do a monthly recap rather than post nothing at all. If you go back & read the older “What’s New In Dart’s iPod” entries you’d understand how time consuming it is to write in excess of 30 reviews twice a month. If these posts serve no purpose for you then you already know what to do…

Ok I could understand not writing full reviews, but a couple sentences so ppl know what to expect? That should take no time at all. I.E. I didn’t like the Lupe Fiasco album because it was Lupe going along with the current trends with soft Alex da Kid type beats and R&B singers on the hook. It sounded like Lupe’s version of Recovery. Ok now this was a sentence I wrote on the fly but now its a million times useful than just posting the name.

And yes, I could just not check for your updates anymore but I did find this useful at one point.

I’m going to say what Ray Bradbury when people asked him to write different or change things, “get a typewriter and do it yourself”. *Kanye shrug*

fine. Its your right to ruin your blog. I guess I’ll find another one. But your quote makes no sense since if I wanted to inform others I would start a music blog myself. The point is me and others wish to be informed ourselves.

I’ve been following your blog for what seems like forever now. I still remember when you said you were stopping and your last post on poisonous paragraphs. I was wondering what I was going to do. I couldn’t wait for every new post as I’d always find a few awesome releases I’d bump for months.

At this point though, this isn’t “What’s New In Dart’s iPod” and it’s really only serving to diminish what once was. Unless this is something you HAVE to do, I’d honestly rather see you stop than force something out once a month. I can understand you being tired of it or just busy with more exciting things as you’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember and that’s cool.

As a long time follower, and one that’s been woken up to more shit than I can count from your posts, I’d personally like to request you do the feature some justice, just straight up stop if it’s something you either don’t want to do or have the time for, or at the very least change the name. This isn’t and hasn’t been “What’s New In Dart’s iPod” for quite some time.

I’d really hate to have someone come find this after telling them how they missed out on one of the best hip-hop blog features I’ve ever had the pleasure to read.

I still go back and read some of the old poisonous paragraphs posts hoping there was a gem or two I missed.

Nothing but respect.

I second the Anomareh’s post. I wouldn’t have been able to write it as well but it sums up how i feel. Even if you just brought us 10 Mos Defs whenever you can it would be an improvement.

At the moment i am only checking this every blue moon while Darts Ipod used to be my regular.

Bastardswordsman is on point like for ever /poisonous
