With a slow day at work today and nothing seemingly occupying my time within the next few hours other than waiting on 3:51 CST to get here so I can
offer up my valiant attempt at copping the limited online release of the Jordan “Cement” IIIs (200 bones just for the Nike logo on the hell, rather than the “Jumpman”? Silly, I know..), I bring to you one of the illest, most slept-on singles from 1996, C.H.A.O.S.’ sick “True M.P.”
In somewhat of a “six degrees of separation”, “True M.P.” was produced by Pretzel’s Logic, whom also released a potent single just a year prior to ’96 with “The Promo”. However, another favorite of mine from 1996, Natural Mystics’ “How It Go” was supplied a backbone from ‘Logic, as was the Bornsinnas 12″ “It All Comes Down 2″ and “Born Sinnin”, with all the singles being released via the Domestic Violence imprint. For as short lived as the label was, with the release of “True M.P.”, “How It Go” and the Bornsinnas’ 12″ , it’s crazy to imagine the mark they would have made having been lent the proper ear. A toss up between “How It Go” and this featured track from C.H.A.O.S., “True M.P.”, Pretzel’s Logic undoubtedly delivered some of the tastiest production for the ’95-’96 era.
Surprisingly, this 12″ wasn’t the only release from C.H.A.O.S. as there is also an undated release, “The Iwakening”, which by my guess is an actual remix of “Death Stalks” that I have yet to hear. If anyone has that release, feel free to link a brotha’ up as I’d more than gracious to divulge in any more material from the Domestic Violence camp.
